Silicone Crosspolymers for Personal Care
Conventional thickening agents have traditionally shown limited compatibility with silicone formulations, and silicone crosspolymers were developed to help overcome these challenges and achieve the desired rheology and sensory attributes. These silicone elastomers are based on crosslinked dimethicone in the form of swollen gels using silicone fluids as carriers. They are used as thickening agents, often without heating, in the preparation of water-in-silicone formulations. Their compatibility with various lipophilic active ingredients (such as perfumes, UV filters, and vitamins) allows them to function as stabilizing agents. They provide a non-greasy, silky skin feel and can help reduce formulation tackiness.
